Donegal fiddle legend John Doherty is reported to have said composer Scott Skinner wrote the hornpipe The Mathematician "to fool the country fiddlers"....Elmer Briand (an uncle of fiddler Natalie McMaster) composed the second tune in honor of fiddler Johnny Wilmot sometime in the 1960's when the same Johnny couldn't find a fiddle he liked. Dermot and Floriane got this tune from the McDonald family (Dan, Paul and Lloyd).
